A brick Gothic castle on the Liwiec river with a museum of arms, plus nearby Węgrów with Baroque churches and a quiet square. An easy, crowd-free day trip about 90 minutes from Warsaw.

What to see
- Liw Castle — a brick Gothic stronghold of the Masovian dukes from the 15th century, with a tower and a small courtyard.
- The Museum of Arms inside the castle — historic weapons and armour, fun for kids too.
- The Liwiec valley — meadows and a small bridge by the castle, the best spot to photograph the whole building.
- Baroque churches of Węgrów — richly decorated interiors and historic organs.
- Węgrów market square — a small, calm layout typical of an old provincial town.
Where to eat
Eat in Węgrów, where small restaurants and bars serve Polish home cooking: pierogi, pork cutlet, soups and potato pancakes. Liw itself has little choice, so plan lunch in town. For dessert, look for cafés baking their own cakes.
