Wrocław

A city of bridges and islands that is best explored on foot. The Market Square, Ostrów Tumski at dusk and a hunt for the Wrocław dwarfs make a ready-made plan for two days.

Trip plan

Weekend plan

Saturday

  • 10:00 — Arrive at Wrocław Główny and walk towards the Market Square.
  • 11:00 — Market Square, Town Hall and the Cloth Hall, with the first dwarfs along the way.
  • 13:30 — Lunch in the lanes around the Market.
  • 15:00 — The University and Sand Island, then across the bridge to Ostrów Tumski.
  • 18:00 — The cathedral and an after-dark walk among gas street lamps.

Sunday

  • 10:00 — The Racławice Panorama or a walk around Nadodrze.
  • 12:30 — Market Hall and a second breakfast.
  • 14:00 — Odra embankments and islands, plus a boat trip if the weather allows.
  • 16:00 — Train home.

What to see

  • The Market Square with its Gothic Town Hall, one of the largest squares in Poland.
  • Ostrów Tumski with the cathedral and old churches.
  • The Wrocław dwarfs, small figurines scattered across the whole city.
  • The Racławice Panorama, a giant painting in a purpose-built rotunda.
  • Centennial Hall, an UNESCO-listed modernist landmark.

Where to eat

Wrocław is known for modern takes on Polish cuisine and for cafés and beer bars around the Market and Nadodrze. Look for pierogi, żurek and dishes from the former eastern borderlands, and have coffee at small roasteries.

Where to stay

The Old Town keeps everything within reach. The area around Plac Solny and Ostrów Tumski is calmer, while Nadodrze draws people with its bars and alternative-district feel.
