A large reservoir right outside Warsaw: sailing, cycling among pines and hotels with spa zones. A good way to get away from the city without losing hours on the road.
Trip plan
Weekend plan
Saturday
- 10:00 — Arrive at the lake and drop your bags at the hotel.
- 11:30 — Rent a sailboat or kayak at one of the marinas; beginners can go out with an instructor.
- 14:30 — Lunch with fish from local waters.
- 16:30 — Walk or cycle along the shore through the pine forest.
- 19:00 — Dinner and an evening in the hotel spa.
Sunday
- 10:00 — Breakfast, pool and sauna.
- 12:00 — Serock: the market square and a view of the Narew.
- 15:00 — Head back to Warsaw before the Sunday jam.
What to see
- Zegrze Reservoir — an artificial lake on the Narew and Bug, a favorite of Warsaw sailors.
- Serock market square — small and quiet, with a church and a view of the river.
- Marinas and harbors — a good spot to watch the yachts.
- Forest paths around the lake — easy walking and cycling routes.
Where to eat
Go for fish: fried zander, pike, eel and smoked fish, often straight from roadside smokehouses. By the water you will find taverns with terraces; in Serock, cafes and restaurants around the square.
Where to stay
- Spa hotels in the forest, with a pool, saunas and a marina.
- Guesthouses and cabins by the water, a cheaper choice for groups.
- Campsites in summer, if you prefer something simpler.
